Chapter One
Roarke McBride pulled his hat lower on to his head. He glanced behind him to the street of Corbett Place. He knew the area well, and wasn’t too concerned about anyone recognising him and blabbing to the press that he was here. Besides, very few people knew he was even in town. Roarke focused on the door in front of him before pressing the bell. He lowered his head so he couldn’t be seen from the peephole. Roarke held the edible bouquet higher to make sure he’d obscured his face.
“May I help you?” a voice asked over the intercom.
Roarke smiled, recognising that baritone. “Delivery.” He deepened his tone, making it gruff.
The door opened. Roarke dropped the bouquet and tackled the man in the doorway. They went down with an “Oomph.”
“What the…? Roarke!” Aidan Vaughn’s expressive pale grey eyes showed confusion, surprise then happiness.
Roarke studied his best friend. As usual, Aidan’s short, dark hair was in charming disarray and he looked sexy. The man never tried to look good, he just did.
“Aidan, it’s so good to see you.” Roarke hugged his legs around Aidan as he straddled him.
“You too. But you really need to stop tackling me when I open my door.” Aidan laughed and hugged him back.
“You would think something was wrong with me if I didn’t.” Roarke chuckled.
It was what he did when he saw Aidan and his brothers. They were all close friends and they roughhoused. Growing up in the same neighbourhood, right next door to each other, they had been in and out of each other’s houses. They both had large families—Aidan had five brothers and Roarke had eight brothers and one sister. Their parents still lived in the old neighbourhood, next to each other.
“Aidan, is there a reason some man is straddling you in our doorway?” a deep bass voice asked behind where they lay.
“Ohhh… He sounds yummy, just as good as he looks in the pictures.” Roarke grinned widely.
“Oh… I know that look. Don’t even think it,” Aidan warned.
Now, he couldn’t very well ignore that challenge. Roarke leaned over and kissed him. Aidan stiffened, but soon relaxed. There was nothing sexual in the kiss. Their intimacy had changed long ago, leaving just their friendship. Roarke raised his head, then winked at him.
“You all must have been sexy together,” the same voice said, now right next to them.
Roarke turned his head and met the golden, slumberous eyes of Enrique Matthews, who was now on the floor beside them. He recognised the man from the photos that Aidan had emailed him. Enrique’s eyes had more of a coppery tint than his amber ones, which were yellowish gold. Enrique’s long black hair was pulled back from his handsome face. Roarke saw why Aidan loved him so much. There was a shrewd look, as well as an openness, to his face.
“Enrique.” Roarke slid off Aidan and over to Enrique.
He pushed him on to his back and straddled him. Roarke grinned down into his face. Enrique smiled, a sexy twist to full lips.
